Choosing a Plan

QuizTime offers two plans:

Free — Available to everyone at no cost. Includes 5 quiz credits per month, up to 2 topics, and 1 source per topic. Multiplayer is included. Archiving topics is not available on the Free plan.

QuizTime Pro — Available with monthly or yearly billing. Yearly billing offers a significant discount compared to monthly. Includes 50 quiz credits per month, unlimited topics, up to 5 sources per topic, topic archiving, and a 14-day free trial — no credit card required. Current pricing is shown on the upgrade screen and on the landing page.

To upgrade, click the Upgrade button that appears on your Dashboard or in the credit display. Your free trial starts instantly with no payment information needed. When you're ready to continue after the trial, you can add a payment method and choose between monthly and yearly billing. All payments are processed by Stripe — QuizTime never stores your payment details.

Monthly vs. Yearly Billing

When upgrading to Pro, you'll see a toggle to choose between Monthly and Yearly billing. Yearly billing saves you money compared to paying month-by-month — the savings percentage is shown on the pricing page.

If you're currently on a monthly Pro subscription, you can switch to yearly billing at any time from your plan settings. Stripe automatically prorates the difference, so you only pay for what you haven't used on the monthly plan.

Switching from yearly to monthly is not supported — if you need to change, cancel your yearly plan and resubscribe on a monthly basis after the current period ends.

Credits

Credits are what power quiz generation. Each time you generate a quiz, a small number of credits is deducted based on the question count you chose:

Your remaining credits are shown on the Dashboard. Before you generate a quiz, the dialog displays exactly how many credits the quiz will use so there are no surprises.

Credits do not roll over — unused credits expire at the end of each billing period (or calendar month for Free users). Credits from one-time credit packs are also consumed in the same period.

Running Low or Out of Credits

When you have 2 or fewer credits remaining, a warning appears on the Dashboard. When you're out of credits, quiz generation is blocked and you'll see a prompt to buy more or upgrade.

Buying Extra Credits (Credit Packs)

You can purchase additional credits at any time as a one-time purchase — no subscription required. Credit packs are available from the credit display on your Dashboard. Each pack adds credits to your balance for a flat fee. You can buy as many packs as you need, and they stack on top of your monthly plan credits.

Your 14-Day Free Trial

When you click "Start 14-day free trial," your Pro access activates instantly — no credit card required. You get the full Pro experience for 14 days with no payment information needed upfront.

Your Dashboard shows how many days remain in your trial while the trial is active. A banner reminds you to add a payment method before the trial ends. You can add a payment method at any time by clicking "Add payment method" in the trial banner or in your plan info.

When the trial expires, if you haven't added a payment method, you'll automatically return to the Free plan. You can then upgrade to Pro at any time through the standard checkout flow.

Managing Your Subscription

Click your avatar in the Dashboard header and select Billing (or look for the billing link in your plan display) to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can:

  • View your current plan and next renewal date
  • Update your payment method
  • View past invoices
  • Cancel your subscription

Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain full access until then.

Switching from Monthly to Yearly

If you're on a monthly Pro subscription, you can switch to yearly billing to save money. Look for the Switch to yearly and save option in your plan info dialog. The switch takes effect immediately, and Stripe prorates the cost so you're credited for any unused time on your monthly plan.

Failed Payments

If a payment fails, your account is immediately moved to the Free plan. There is no grace period. Access is restored automatically as soon as your payment is resolved. You'll receive an email notification when a payment fails so you can update your payment method promptly.

Refund Policy

All purchases — subscriptions and credit packs — are non-refundable.

Promo Codes

If you have a promo code, enter it in the Have a promo code? field on the upgrade flow or on the Dashboard's credit display. Codes can grant:

  • A percentage discount on your subscription
  • A free access period (trial extension or free paid-plan days)
  • A credit pack of free credits added directly to your account

Each code can only be redeemed once per account. Codes may have expiration dates or redemption limits.

Pro Referral Program

If you're on paid Pro, your Profile page includes a personal referral code and a /ref/<CODE> share link. When another paid Pro member redeems your code, you both receive bonus credits in your current billing period (the exact amount is shown on the welcome page and on the redemption confirmation). Each account can redeem one code, ever; sponsored Pro seats and Free / trialing accounts cannot earn or redeem. See Your Account → Referrals for full details.

Sponsoring Pro Access for Team Members

Team owners (parents or teachers) can individually sponsor QuizTime Pro access for members of their team. Teams themselves are free to create and join — no subscription is needed to set up a team.

How Sponsoring Works

  • From the team page, click Sponsor Pro next to any member on the Free plan.
  • Choose between monthly or yearly billing for the sponsorship.
  • You'll be taken to a secure Stripe checkout to pay for that member's Pro subscription.
  • Each sponsored member gets their own independent Pro account with 50 credits per month.
  • The team owner is not counted — owners are purely admins and do not receive quiz credits from sponsorships. If an owner wants their own Pro credits, they need a separate personal subscription.
  • Members who already have their own paid Pro subscription (self-paid) do not need sponsoring.

Cancelling a Sponsorship

From the team page, click Cancel Sponsorship next to any sponsored member. The member keeps Pro access until the end of the current billing period, then returns to the Free plan.

Buying Credits for a Team Member

From the team page, each member row shows their current credit balance. Click Buy Credits next to any member to purchase a credit pack on their behalf — you pay, and the credits are applied directly to their account. The member receives an email notification when credits are added.

Member Emails

Team members receive email notifications when they are added to a team and when a parent or teacher purchases credits for them. Team owners receive notifications when members join.
