Teams

Teams

Teams let you organize people into groups for studying together. There are two team types:

  • Family — Created by a parent or guardian to group family members. Joining a Family team also grants parental consent for children under 13, which is required before they can use the app.
  • Classroom — Created by a teacher to organize students.

Only adults (18+) can create teams and act as team owners.

Creating a Team

  1. Click the Your Teams tab on the Dashboard, or tap Teams in the avatar dropdown menu.
  2. Click Create Team.
  3. Enter a team name and choose a type: Family or Classroom.
  4. Click Create — you'll be taken directly to the new team's page.

Inviting Members

From the team detail page, click Invite Members to generate a shareable invite code. Share the code with the people you want to add. When they sign in and enter the invite code, they'll join your team automatically.

When creating an invite you can optionally set an expiration time (e.g. 24 hours, 7 days) and a max-use limit (e.g. single use, or up to N people). Leave both blank for a code that never expires and has no usage cap. You can revoke any existing invite from the team page at any time.

Managing Members

On the team detail page you can see every member with their name, account type (Child, Teen, Adult), and role (Owner or Member). As the team owner you can:

  • Remove Members — Select a member and click Remove to take them off the team immediately.
  • Edit Name — Rename the team at any time.
  • Delete Team — Permanently delete the team. This removes all members but does not affect their individual accounts.

Parental Consent for Children Under 13

Children under 13 cannot use QuizTime until a parent or guardian grants consent. The process is:

  1. The parent creates a Family team.
  2. The parent shares the invite code with the child.
  3. The child signs up and enters the invite code to join the family team.
  4. Consent is granted automatically when the child joins — no additional steps needed.

Once consented, the child can use the app as normal. If the child is removed from the family team, their consent is revoked and they'll lose access until a parent re-invites them.

Team Subscriptions (Pro for Groups)

Team owners can purchase QuizTime Pro seats for their members — useful for parents or teachers covering the cost of Pro access on behalf of children or students.

How it works:

  • The owner purchases a set number of seats (minimum 1).
  • Each seat gives one team member their own independent Pro account with 50 credits per month.
  • The owner is not counted as a seat — they are purely the billing administrator. If the owner also wants Pro credits, they need a separate personal subscription.
  • Price: $40 per seat per year, charged as a single annual payment.

Adding seats — From the team page, click Add Seats, enter the new total seat count, and confirm. Extra seats are prorated so you only pay for the remaining days in the billing period.

Removing seats — Click Reduce Seats and select which member(s) to remove. Removed members retain access until the end of the current billing period, then return to the Free plan.

Seat capacity — The team page shows current usage (e.g. "3 of 5 seats used"). When all seats are filled, no new members can be assigned Pro access until you add more.

Buying credits for a member — Each member row on the team page shows their credit balance. Click Buy Credits next to any member to purchase a credit pack on their behalf. The credits are applied immediately and the member receives an email notification.

Trial grace period — If a member joins when fewer than 7 days remain in the team's trial, the trial is automatically extended to give that member at least 7 days of access before billing begins.
